MDA-Funded Researcher To Test Tadalafil (Cialis) As Treatment For Becker Muscular Dystrophy

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Cedars-Sinai investigators funded by the Muscular Dystrophy Association are registering two dozen ambulatory men with Becker muscular dystrophy for a clinical trial of tadalafil (Cialis) as a treatment for the progressive muscle disease. The randomized, placebo-controlled efficacy study will examine the effects of acute tadalafil dosing on muscle blo od flow during a bout of exercise. About 18 million men have been treated with Cialis since its (more…)

Effect of GABAergic ligands on the anxiolytic-like activity of DOI (a 5-HT(2A/2C) agonist) in the four-plate test in mice.

Authors: Massé F, Hascoët M, Bourin M
5-HTergic and GABAergic systems are involved in neurobiology of anxiety. Precedent studies have demonstrated that SSRIs possessed an anxiolytic-like effect in the four-plate test (FPT) at doses that did not modify spontaneous locomotor activity. This effect seems to be mediated through the activation of 5-HT(2A) postsynaptic receptors. The purpose of the present study was to examine the implication (more…)

New Obesity Drug Qnexa Showed Positive Results In Late Stage Trials Test Says Company

Monday, May 24th, 2010

According to Vivus Inc, their experimental drug Qnexa for t reating obesity showed positive results in late stage trials, where patients who took the new diet pill, a combination of phentermine (a stimulant) and topiramate (an anticonvulsant), shed an average of nearly 15 per cent of their body (Source: Health News from Medical News Today)

Class Counsel Says Wyeth Changes Position On Test For PPH

The modified Geller-Seifter test in rats was insensitive to GABA(B) receptor positive modulation or blockade, or 5HT(1A) receptor activation.

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Authors: Paterson NE, Hanania T
Rationale: Both the GABA(B) receptor positive modulator GS39783 and the GABA(B) receptor antagonist CGP46381 exhibit anxiolytic-like properties in animal models. In the present studies, the effects of GS39783 and CGP46381 in the modified Geller-Seifter task were assessed. First, the predictive validity of the task was confirmed by assessing the effects of multiple anxiolytic and non-anxiolytic compounds on (more…)
